The strange thing about perception is how it influences time. We’ve all heard that ‘time flies when you’re having fun’ and ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ when describing a monumental emotional event.
We’ve also had that feeling that time is dragging because we’re ‘bored’ or ‘not engaged.’ You can see it in the lines created for things…those waiting often wait on their phones instead of like the ‘good old days’ when you waited there in silence and bored.
I have that duality hit me like everyone else. I stand at work and when not engaged with someone I get ‘bored’ and am cognizant of time passing slowly.
I’m working on re-imagining that space, though. In those moments I try to be very grateful to have those minutes where I am aware of every second of it. Those seconds add up to experiences and that’s what I’m aiming for- experiences. No judgment on ‘good’ or ‘bad’- just experience. I’m not perfect at it…far from it…but I love the feeling of trying.
I strive to not wish time away- after all, I only have so much of it.
